I just finished listening to the first of two podcasts (#15 at iTunes) by the creator of MES English, Mark Cox, about the 16-part free curriculum he designed that uses no textbook. That’s right, no textbook. This program is to help beginners become confident about speaking and using English before moving on to more difficult textbooks where they learn about the construction of language. I have not yet used this material before (although I think I could readily incorporate it into my own classes), but it is well thought-out, and shows his deep experience as a teacher. A variety of worksheets, flashcards, videos and activities are available for free. It might be a little intimidating for some to go without a book, but for an experienced teacher it looks like a lot of fun.
